Benefits of Solar Cooking:

Solar cooking can reduce the need for firewood which reduces the risk of gender-based violence towards women and girls who would have to collect firewood outside of the refugee camps.  Solar energy is FREE and almost always available in the African environment.

The Solar CooKit is a simple solar cooker that converts sunlight into heat to cook food.  It is made of cardboard and foil and can be hand assembled.  After a 5-day training, women in the Iridimi camp receive 2 solar cookers (one for rice and the other for vegetables or sauce).  Some women even assemble solar cookers in a workshop to earn income.
